Kernel's of Korn

Let's Shred!

Years ago, when my son was still a skateboarder we heard that a lot around our house! I’d actually built a huge skateboard half-pipe in the backyard!  Well, I want you to know that in today’s world  that phrase has taken on  a whole new meaning!

Let’s Shred!

Every piece of paper that comes into your house that has any relevant data on it! That’s right, before you toss a piece of paper in the ole file 13, shred it up! Some things are obvious or at least they should be, things like old checks, credit card bills and bank statements! But how about some of the other documents that may not be as obvious. Documents like:

Bank deposit account receipts—Unsolicited credit card applications—Old loan and mortgage papers—Correspondence from your lender and/or payment book stubs—ATM receipts—Magazine subscription renewals—Mutual fund company purchase coupons that come with your statements—Any financial document that even has your name, much less any other information—Utility invoices—Contribution records. IN GENERAL! SHRED IT ALL!

For some documents, I even suggest you wait until winter and a nice cold day comes along (come on, we do get a few here in South Florida!), so that you can crank up the ole fireplace to burn some of these papers. Old tax returns is a great example! Now, if you don’t have a fireplace, bake a nice pie or cake and call me on a cold day. You bring the cake, I’ll crank up my fireplace! In the interim, buy a shredder!! Shred, Shred, Shred!

Here’s another great way to avoid some scams and rip-offs!  Tear out the following paragraph and place it near your phone! When, some would be advisor or salesman calls or coerces, just read the following to them. (By the way, in many, many cases, the person needing to hear this paragraph may be a close family member or friend!!!)

“ I’m sorry, I can’t make a decision without my CPA’S and Certified Financial Planners approval. If you’d like to hasten that approval process, please mail Mr. Kornmeier the relevant materials. His address  is 377 SW 14th Avenue, Pompano Beach, FL 33069. Please be sure to mention my name so that he knows which client it’s regarding."

Please note: Mr. Rick Kornmeier CPA CFP does not sell any financial or accounting services, books or tapes. His involvement with Consumer and Biblical Stewardship is a ministry that was started in the early 1980's strictly as a means of sharing his abilities with churches and Christians in need of his expertise.
