Basically, this table will show you what your future expenses might be when you consider "inflation". For example, say a roof costs $10,000 today. You'll need a new roof in five  years and you think that the prices will "inflate" at about 5 percent compounded a year. Using the Growing Money
you find the 5 percent, five year factor is 1.28. Multiplying this factor times the current estimated cost, you'll estimate that a new roof, in five  years, will cost you $ 12,800. 

To Neglect the Effect of Inflation
